Counselling & Art Therapy

Counselling

Our counselling practice is based on an eclectic theoretical orientation, influenced by psychoanalytical theories of development, with a strong foundation in humanism, and informed by postmodern, multicultural, feminist approaches. We use a client focussed, strengths based approach to build skills and resilience. With a trauma informed lens, establishing safety with clients is key before creating opportunities for collaboration and decisions making. Our goal is to support you to create and develop a life of meaning and value. This may involve learning new skills and trying out new strategies or ways of responding in the here-and-now. It may also involve exploring some of the life experiences that have shaped your understanding of yourself, others and the world.

Art Therapy

Working with mind, body and spirit, art therapy utilizes sensory, perceptual, and symbolic communication to process emotions and experiences. Trauma often is stored at implicit, non-verbal levels where there are no words. Working with art therapy facilitates connection to the felt sense of implicit memories, trauma or experiences that may be difficult to communicate with language. Through integrative methods, art therapy engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that are distinct from verbal articulation alone. www.arttherapy.org.
